Our Story

i3D Mobility grew out of hands-on engineering

in high-performance adaptive equipment – including custom carbon systems built for elite Australian athletes competing at the highest international level in adaptive sport.

Working at that level revealed something we kept coming back to:

Small changes in weight, fit, and geometry add up. A chair set up around the individual simply takes less effort to move – and that difference shows up everywhere, all day long.

It also exposed a gap:

that kind of engineering and material innovation has stayed locked away at the elite end – and when it does reach everyday users, the choices are limited, and the waits are long. Our mission for the decades ahead is to bring that level of design to far more people and needs – and, over time, to bring the manufacturing home to Australia.

The same proprietary technologies developed

through previous projects will enable us to manufacture individually customised wheelchairs that are stronger, lighter, faster to produce and more affordable than traditional approaches. By combining advanced engineering, additive manufacturing and digital design, i3D Mobility offers high-quality, custom-built mobility products accessible to more Australians.

From sketch to prototype

Hand sketched design to CAD — then into the workshop

Our R&D loop moves from concept sketches to precise CAD, then into physical prototypes tested with real users. Every iteration tightens fit, strength, and manufacturability.

  1. 01
Concept sketches Hand-drawn geometry explores propulsion, seating, and structural options.
  2. 02
CAD engineering Sketches become digital frames ready for analysis and manufacturing.
  3. 03
Prototype & fit Physical seats and frames are built, moulded, and refined in the workshop.
  4. 04
Human testing Athletes and users validate comfort, load, and real-world performance.

Test & Evaluation

Proven under load

Every frame material we specify is validated through flexural and fracture testing — so geometry, weight, and strength stay within clinical tolerances before a chair ever reaches a rider.

Team

Engineering lead by design

i3D Mobility is built by a small team with deep roots in aerospace, defence, advanced manufacturing, and design engineering — bringing the discipline of high-performance industries to a category that's rarely seen it. We're united by a simple belief: that the engineering reserved for the elite end should be within reach of far more people.
